Over the next 60 years further housing was built, including the Castelnau Estate, and by 1928 the population had increased to over 5000.
Castelnau has two churches, Holy Trinity Barnes and the Catholic Church of St Osmund. Holy Trinity Barnes was built in 1868 and designed by the local architect and artist Thomas Allom. St Osmund’s was built in 1958 and its architect was Ronald Hardy.
